We knew Kristen and Jason were a fun-loving couple back when we did their engagement session. They further proved it to us- and everyone else- at their June 15, 2012 wedding. These two had such a fun wedding day that still held so much respect for their commitment to one another. You could see how excited they were to be husband and wife in the smiles that were present throughout the entire day. From lanterns instead of floral bouquets and parasol props during portraits to canvas painting for their reception guestbook, Kristen and Jason made the day their own.

Brittany and Trevor | A Cincinnati Wedding at St. Xavier Church and The Manor House

Brittany and Trevor had an elegant wedding on June 9, 2012. They were married at the beautiful St. Xavier Church in downtown Cincinnati and had their reception at The Manor House. There are so many reasons that this was a great wedding: an emotive first look with Dad, adorable little ring bearers, a super fun bridal party, and a stunning couple allowing us to be apart of their love story ! There was so much emotion throughout the entire event. We’re so glad to have had such a fun and loving couple as clients and are so excited to share images from their day!

How sweet is this first look with Dad? Such a great way to get a few beautiful images with your father on your wedding day!

Lisa and Mike | An Elegant Summer Wedding at Wiedemann Hill Mansion

Lisa and Mike were married at one of our favorite venues in Northern Kentucky, Wiedemann Hill Mansion. It was a blustery June 1st, but that didn’t hurt their beautifully intimate outdoor ceremony in Newport! The moody sky added to the mansion’s amazing view of the Cincinnati skyline and made for some great portraits! One of the things we love about this wedding is how emotionally involved everyone was, one of the perks of an intimate wedding day. Lisa told us that “having a small, 60-person wedding was the best decision we made. It allowed us to spend time with all of our guests. Since it was only 60 people, we had to determine who was most important to us.” Determining who makes the final guest list can be difficult, but the rewards are definitely worth it if you want a small affair with your closest family and friends. Lisa’s advice to those in the planning stages? ”Determine what your biggest ‘must have’s’ are and create your budget from there. We had a very tight budget but I don’t feel like anything important was left out or sacrificed.”

Lisa said her favorite moment of the day was “giving my new husband a high-five after our ceremony was over and we were walking back into the house.” We thought that was pretty great, too. :)

Melanie and Jeff | A Downtown Cincinnati Wedding at The Phoenix

It was a hot day in May that Melanie and Jeff said “I do!” But that didn’t stop them from having an amazing wedding. Melanie’s great taste (hello, Jimmy Choos!) made certain that the day was going to look beautiful; add to that a sweetly-in-love couple and she and Jeff made the day stunning. From their emotive first look and outdoor portraits to the Jewish wedding traditions throughout their ceremony and reception, their wedding was full of love and beauty.

Melanie told us that this first look with Jeff was her favorite moment. “…he came down the escalator behind me and it was just amazing.”

How beautiful is this Ketubah?! Love the artistry that obviously went into it.

As she walked down the aisle, “dodi li,” a song in Hebrew that translates to “My Beloved is Mine,” played.

A violin rendition of “Happy Together” was a great choice for their recessional!

Goodwin Lighting did such a great job! This lighting made for beautiful images as Jeff and Melanie danced to “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds Five.

Redline knew how to keep the party going! “Dancing the night away with my husband, family and new family and friends,” Melanie told us, was “another favorite.”

When asked what advice she would give to brides-to-be, Melanie told us this: “Don’t sweat the small stuff, you wont remember it and it wont matter. Have fun and enjoy every meeting, every decision, it is the most fun experience if you allow it to be fun.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Theresa and Travis | A Cincinnati Wedding at Holy Family Church and the Savannah Center

Theresa and Travis were married on May 19, 2012 at Holy Family Church in Price Hill. They are such a cute couple and their images definitely reflect that! With vibrant red flowers, bridal party wear, and reception details, Theresa and Travis had colorful accents throughout the day. Holy Family Church was the perfect setting for their beautiful ceremony, and the Savannah Center made for a great venue for their reception. Congratulations again, Theresa and Travis! We’re so glad we were able to be apart of your wedding day!

Daniella and Brian | A Bright Jewish Wedding on a Rainy Day

Daniella and Brian were married at Drees Pavilion in Devou Park on May 13, 2012. It was a rainy Sunday in Covington, Kentucky, but that didn’t stop them from having an incredible wedding. The moody sky added to the view of the Cincinnati skyline, and made for a stunning outdoor first look before the wedding. The staff at Drees Pavilion ensured that the indoor ceremony was beautiful and intimate and that the reception was a good time for everyone. With so many beautiful Jewish wedding traditions– from the badekan (veiling) ceremony to the signing of the Ketubah and celebrating with the Hora, Daniella and Brian had a beautiful wedding day that was rich in family, beauty, and love.

A break in the rain allowed for a gorgeously overcast first look!

And, of course, they celebrated with the Hora! I love seeing everyone come together to celebrate the marriage!

I love these night portraits! They’re such a sweet couple, and their smiles say it all.

Daniella and Brian had so many colorful treats at their reception! It was another great contrast to the overcast day outside.

These gorgeous booklets (or “benchers”) contained special readings and songs. After a prayer was spoken, seven blessings were read to the couple.

Next came the “cup of blessing.” Two glasses of wine are poured into one and then given to the couple to drink.

Brian and Daniella, you had such a beautiful wedding day! Thank you for allowing us to be there with you as you celebrated your love. Congratulations again and best wishes from all of us at Steve Lyons Wedding Photography. :)

Sarah and Ryan | An Elegant Springtime Cincinnati Wedding

Sarah and Ryan were married on May 12, 2012. Everything about their wedding had such a late-spring transitioning to early-summer feeling. The lovely yellow accents of the flowers and Sarah’s shoes paired perfectly with the navy blues, greys, and whites that filled the day held all the light warmth of the season. Looking at their details and that gorgeous green grass makes me so ready for spring! :) In the spirit of the season, Sarah and Ryan had a lot of fun with their friends and family. In fact, some of Sarah’s favorite images from the day were some of the fun photos of her with her bridesmaids, and one of her favorite moments was the limo ride to the reception with all of her and Ryan’s closest friends!

And on such a fun filled, yet elegant wedding day, great vendors are vital. Thanks so much to our vendor friends who were such a big part of Ryan and Sarah’s wedding!

How incredible is Sarah’s dress?! All of that gorgeous lace detailing, the buttons, the bow- it all paired together to create a stunning look.

I love how light and airy the chapel is at Anderson United Methodist. The large windows and clean lines throughout the room make for great images!

This bridal party image in front of Music Hall is one of Sarah’s favorites!

The ballroom in Music Hall was such a beautiful space to have their reception! The lighting was incredible and really set the mood for the night.

Because Sarah and Ryan both enjoy music, they decided to hire Trent Sims (pictured above left) to play the Mighty Wurlitzer organ during their cocktail hour. It was a unique addition to their day, and perfect for Music Hall! You can hear what the organ sounds like and see Trent play here.

This is what we love to capture and share… the emotions, the beauty of a moment, and all the things for which they stand. These images are among some of our favorite from parent dances. Such sweet moments!

Asha and Nick | An Elegant Covington Basilica and Hall of Mirrors Cincinnati Wedding

Asha and Nick were married on April 21, 2012 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Covington, Kentucky and then had an amazing reception at the beautiful Hilton Netherland Plaza’s Hall of Mirrors. Asha and Nick had a completely stunning and elegant wedding day that incorporated their two backgrounds beautifully. “We tried to incorporate my Indian culture as much as we could,” Asha explained. “We changed into traditional Indian outfits during our reception and had some Indian traditions during our Catholic ceremony. Our wedding favors were tiny silver elephants for each guest to take home.” All of their planning paid off! Their day was just as magical and beautiful as they intended.

St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Covington, Kentucky is such an incredible church! It made the perfect venue for this ceremony!

One of Asha’s favorite parts of the day was seeing the Hall of Mirrors set up for her reception for the first time. She and Nick were able to go in before any of the guests to see everything laid out perfectly. “I loved walking into our reception and seeing all the months of planning come to life! I teared up when my new husband and I walked into that room… and realized this was our moment.”

As always, DJ Butlers did an incredible job with keeping the atmosphere just right. Asha and Nick helped, too: “We both love to dance and love music so we made sure to pick out every single song for our special day. It seemed to have worked just right, the dance floor was packed all night!”

Asha’s advice to brides-to-be?”Don’t stress too much, somehow everything seems to fall into place. Things may seem to be going all wrong, but it all will work out, especially when you are doing it with the love of your life.”

We couldn’t agree more! Congratulations again, Asha and Nick! As we near your first anniversary, we hope you continue to fall more in love and grow with one another more and more. Best wishes!

Sandra and Michael | A Spring Wedding at St. Aloysius Church

After a long absence of posting, we are back! There was so much going on at the studio during wedding season that we got behind on posts… really behind. Now that we’re up to date with all of our fabulous 2012 clients and prepping for the great couples we’re photographing in 2013, we decided it was time to get back to the blog and share what we’ve been up to. Many Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky weddings and engagement sessions will be coming your way very soon. :)

Sandra and Michael were married on March 25, 2012, a beautiful spring day. The ceremony was at the gorgeous St. Aloysius church in Cincinnati and the reception took place at Elements in Sharonville. These two had such a lovely wedding, so full of joy and love! You could see the emotion all over every face, and as a couple, Sandra and Michael shine with warmth and love. Steve captured some great portraits of them down by the river in Covington, and also photographed some amazing moments throughout the day. Let’s take a look!

Jane and Ilya | Cincinnati Wedding

Jane and Ilya were married at the beautiful Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hilton on March 10, 2012. Everything about their wedding was simply stunning, and so many people helped to make that happen! Thank you to all of Jane and Ilya’s wedding vendors for their part in such a wonderful wedding day.

I asked Jane about some of the planning that went into her wedding. She did such an incredible job with setting the mood for the day! When asked what her inspirations were, she said that she wanted a day that was “classic, elegant, romantic, and simple.” She used a flower motif from her dress to incorporate into other wedding day details, like the invitations, menus, and lighting on the dance floor. “I wanted it to be timeless and about us and our families.”

The first look, a special moment where the bride and groom find a secluded place to see and spend a few moments with each other before their ceremony, was one of Jane’s favorite moments of the day. She shared that it “was really exciting- I always imagined how I would feel and I really felt special at that moment.”

One of the special personal details at the wedding was the food at the cocktail hour. Jane explains, “We were very intent on somehow incorporating tradition of having specific food and an abundance of food and drink throughout the wedding- Marianne and the Chefs did a great job being creative and accommodating family traditions by creating a station with caviar and and shots of vodka!”

Jane noted the Horrah as one of the moments she was most proud of from the day. This was how they ended their wedding– at 3:30 AM with no less than fifty of their guests! “It was one long, fun, crazy, and very celebratory Horrah!” See for yourself!

Jane’s advice to brides-to-be? “I would say know yourself and do things that will allow you to enjoy the day. Prioritize what is important and don’t get caught up in details that aren’t. For me, I planned my wedding in 5 months or so and I decided that I would focus on the big things, the things that would absolutely make or break the event. I focused on finding amazing vendors that had experience so that i could trust them to do what they do best the day of the event and all my family and I had to do was enjoy the day.”
